IELTS Speaking

This IELTS speaking test will assess your ability to communicate in a number of topics. You will be tested by the examiner who is a native English speaker and trained to assess your spoken English. The test will last up to 14 minutes.

There are three stages to the test:

Stage One: Stage one of the IELTS speaking test can last up to 5 minutes and follows the format of a conversation between two people who have just met for the first time. You will be asked to talk about personal subjects that affect you, such as family, job, university study, etc and other familiar topics.

Stage Two: Stage two of the IELTS speaking test will test your presentation skills in a general topic. You will be handed a card with a topic and you must talk about it for one to two minutes. It will be topic that is related to your own experience. For example, talk about what is your inspiration or who your role model is, or even talk about the culture in your country. You again do not need to have special knowledge to do it. You will be given a pencil and paper for you to make notes and prepare for your presentation.

Stage Three: In stage three of the IELTS speaking test you will need to express your opinions. You will talk and discuss topics that are more complicated and you need to give your opinions, backed up with reasoning, as well as forecast for the future. You may well be asked to suggest how you would overcome certain problems and resolve any issues that you have discussed. This part of the IELTS speaking test is the most important part as the examiner will really judge you for the final score.
