What is a Degree Level Course?

In UKBA website,a ‘degree level study’ is described as a course which leads to a recognized United Kingdom degree at bachelor’s level or above, or an equivalent qualification at level 6 or above of the revised National Qualifications Framework (NQF).

Does it mean that a course in NQF level 4 is equivalent to a degree level course ?

  • Hello Daniel..

Just want to ask about the difference between post graduate diploma and higher national diploma. Is the higher national diploma a worldwide qualification also? Can it be beneficial if in the future, I’m going to work in another country like the USA. Thank you.

  • Hi Daniel,

Here is the confusion, in the wording is it not probably implying that a degree level study is a course that leads to a qualification at NQF level 6 rather than a course starting at NQF Level 6 ?

If we consider that a Bachelor degree in UK is a 3 years course, then entry to the Bachelor degree is at 1st year. Now, is the following levels ok ?

Ist year Bachelor programme = NQF level 4
2nd Year Bachelor programme = NQF level 5
3rd year Bachelor programme = NQF Level 6

    • you have to note that foundation degree program is exempted from the new rules also and they are treated just like degree level students so foundation degree is 240 Credit Accumulation and Transfer Scheme (CATS) points in the UK Higher Education System which is equal to NQF level 4 and level 5

  • Hi Kih

I think you’ve provided the answer in the question: a course of NQF level 4 does not qualify – it must be level 6 or above.
