HRH The Duke of York Opens International Study Centre at the University of Huddersfield

Last week, HRH Prince Andrew, The Duke of York, officially opened the University of Huddersfield’s International Study Centre (ISC). The centre offers international students undergraduate and postgraduate degree preparation courses.

Situated on the Queensgate campus, courses include an International Foundation Year and an International Diploma for access to the first or second years of select undergraduate degrees. It also offers a Pre-Masters pathway to a range of postgraduate courses.

Prince Andrew, the UK’s Special Representative for Trade and Investment, was welcomed by Professor Bob Cryan, the University of Huddersfield’s Vice Chancellor, accompanied by the Mayor of Kirklees, Cllr Julie Stewart-Turner and the High Sheriff of West Yorkshire, Mr Richard Clough.

During the visit he cracked jokes about Yorkshire accents with teachers at the centre and spoke to international students from Turkey and Nigeria.

Professor Bob Cryan commented: “We already welcome over 2,000 overseas students from 130 countries, adding a rich international perspective to the learning environment – something that is of benefit to all our students. The ISC will make the university more accessible to students from around the world and the preparation it provides will help them to excel in their chosen degree courses.”

The University of Huddersfield is renowned for excellence in history, music, engineering and chemistry and specialises in preparing students for employment by working closely with business and the public sector.

James Pitman, Managing Director, Higher Education UK and Europe at Study Group, a world leader in education and training for international students, and the organisation running the ISC in partnership with the university commented: “The opening of the University of Huddersfield ISC follows increasing international demand for access to the university’s world-class courses. It provides domestic students an opportunity to network with peers from around the world – in our experience, these cross-border relationships become invaluable later on as graduates launch their careers in an increasingly globalised business environment.”
