We previously posted about the e-petition urging the Government not to destroy one of its strongest export industries, the English language teaching sector. Today the Government have responded and as expected, they’ve said nothing in the 79 words they released in their statement.
The Government’s Response:
Thank you for taking the time and trouble to sign this e-petition.
As you may be aware, the Government is currently conducting a review of Tier 4 of the Points Based System, and we will respond fully in due course once the review is completed. The aim of this review is to ensure that we continue to give genuine students access to education in the UK, to which the Government is strongly committed, whilst preventing abuse by economic migrants.

The UK Government is reviewing the TIER 4 system.
Could they consider:
1. The current TIER 4 LIST with A GRADE is a good idea.
2. Confidence in the list is waning because studens apply and are admitted on the basis of the information published – and then left high and dry when the LISTED college is suspended or removed. Is there not a need to deepen the INSPECTION probes?
3. If a college is spended temporarily then they should be fined – after all, the suspension causes underserved stress to students wo have registered at an APPROVED college.
3.1. Students should receieve compensation – be allowed legal recourse to compensation in terms of the stress suffered.
3.2. The inspectors who had initially accepted the college should face an open Enquiry – did they do their job properly? If proven that they did not then there should be legal penalites imposed.
3.3. In both cases, individuals responsible for causing undue stress and concern to students should be held publicly accountable.
4. The designation COLLEGE should be a registered title. As is the case with universities. To register there should be a strictly monitored code of practice et al.
4.1. The names of the owners should be published in at least two newspapers for one week – and readers invited to make representations as to the charater and related status of the owners.
4.2. Special scrutiny should be paid to ownership of colleges by foreigners – it was reported that one college owner could not speak English!
Would Minister Woolas and his team give serious thought to the above and PLEASE would they consider CONSULTING with those of us at the coal face?
