Please remember that on Monday 22 February 2010 the final phase of Tier 4 of the Points Based System (PBS) will be implemented.
What this means:
· Visa Letters become obsolete – from 22 February 2010 it will be mandatory for all schools to issue Confirmations of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) to potential students applying from inside or outside the United Kingdom. Applications from potential students for leave that do not contain a CAS number after the 22 February will be refused. All students who currently have visa letters MUST apply on or before the 21st February. This is the last day that UKBA will accept visa applications using a visa letter.
· Reporting students who have used a CAS in an application for leave and do not attend their courses becomes mandatory for schools.
What this means for Tier 4 potential students:
· From 22 February 2010 potential students must be in possession of a CAS number from their prospective Tier 4 sponsor in support of their application for leave
· Potential students in possession of a Visa Letter from their sponsor can only use it if they apply for leave before 22 February 2010, irrespective of whether the decision on that application is made after 22 February 2010.
· Any application submitted on or after 22 February 2010 that does not contain a supporting CAS number will be refused.
· When enrolling at a course all students must be made aware of the school’s attendance policy by the agency.
Please note schools will only be able to start issuing CAS numbers from 22 February, not before.
Please remember that the CAS system applies only to students applying for a General Student Visa. For students applying for Student Visitor Visas the old system applies – using a visa letter and having their application assessed under the old pre-Tier 4 system.

Tuition Fees:
If you have already started your course and you are applying to extend your stay so that you can continue that course, you must show that you have enough money to pay your course fees:
- to the end of the current academic year; or
– for the next academic year, if you will continue on your course at the start of the next academic year.
Maintenance:
This depends on how long you have already been studying in the UK for. If you fit any of the following, you are considered to have an established presence in the UK, and your maintenance requirements would be different:
- completed a single course of study lasting at least six months during their most recent permission to stay in the UK, which ended no more than four months before their current Tier 4 application; or
- are currently studying a single course, of which they have completed at least six months; or
- are currently studying, and have completed a single course lasting at least six months during their current permission to stay.
If you have an established presence, you must show that you have enough money to cover your living costs for:
- two months; or
- the length of your course, if this is less than two months.
If you do not have an established presence, you must show that you have enough money to cover your living costs for:
- nine months; or
- the length of your course, if this is less than nine months.
If the length of your course includes a part of a month, round the time up to the next month. For example, if a course lasts seven months and two weeks, you must show (unless you have an established presence) that you can pay your living costs for eight months.

I forward my application for CAS to train4care institute through my representative in 1st March. I understand the sponsor must apply for registration. I would like to know whether the application is accepted or rejected. If it is still on the process I can wait. How do I know whether it is rejected?

Their website claims that they are A rated by the UK Border Agency. This is not the case – the college are clearly misleading international students.
You should consider applying to a more reputable college.
Have your fees already been transferred to the college? If so, this is further evidence of the college acting in an inappropriate way; they should not accept any new applications whilst they do not have a sponsor licence, as they are unable to issue CAS records.
I would also suggest that your agent is at best naive and at worst acting fraudulently; why did they suggest you enrol with a sponsor who does not have a valid licence?

I got refused visa with the objection that the gap between pre-session english course and main course is more than 1 month. my pre-session english language course was ending on 25-11-2010 and the main course starting date was 17-01-2011. college is telling me that the this much gap is because in december, vacations start for xmas and then new year. so result of pre-session will be announced after mid-january, hence main course will start on 17-jan-2011. is this a valid reason and should I apply for review using this reason ?. new tier4guidance clearly mentions that gap between courses should not be more than 2 months. Please advise me in details.

I think you will have a problem with your visa letter and you will probably have to apply again. You will then be subject to the new rules. You will need to get a CAS from your university and you may be required to show proof of English level. Have you taken an IELTS or equivalent test recently?

No, if you are applying for a UK student visa on 23 February 2010 the new rules will apply; you will have to use a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies. An original visa letter will not be accepted. You can get your college to arrange a CAS for you and send you a scanned copy for you to submit.

I already have a visa letter from Kensington College of Business and have also maintained funds for 28 days my problem is i am unable to apply because in the VFS website it is mentioned that to apply for a student visa an appointment is necessary and appointment is only given to students whose course is starting on or before 15th march 2010.My course is starting on 29th March what will i do to apply for the visa!! how will i get an appointment to apply? Ahmedabad VFS is Closing from 18th of February an will be opening on 24th February so i need an appointment within the next 3-4 days to apply with the visa letter system, can anybody help me out????

my problem is i applied for Ba (hons) business studies 2 yr in Kensington college.when i got my visa letter,its showing like 1st yr is mentioned as diploma in business studies & 2nd yr top up to Ba (hons)business studies.so will this a problem for me to work in 1st yr 20 hours per week…..coz according to the new rule diploma students can work only for 10 hours per week……

The Diploma must be an IBD level 5 HND(higher national diploma) , this is equivalent to 2nd year of bachelors degree in Britain’s education system, so it might be possible you will be able to work for 20 hrs. The rule will applies from 3rd march so apply before that, and where are you applying from?

As long as you are applying on or before 21 February 2010, then you can still use a visa letter with your application. Your bank statements will still be valid on this date.
If you apply on or after 22 February 2010, you will need both a Confirmation of Acceptance to Studies and fresh bank statements showing funds available for 28 days.

As you will be submitting your visa application on 22 February 2010, you will not be able to make your application with a visa letter. You should contact your school or college and arrange for them to issue you with a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies. You should have no problems with your application, despite your school or college only having a B-rating.
Having a B-rating basically means the school or college has some problems with its systems, for example does not measure student attendance correctly. Any education provider who has a B-rating will be given a Sponsor Action Plan to follow by the UK Border Agency and their progress will be assessed every 3 months. I should point out to you that if they fail or refuse to follow the Sponsor Action Plan the school’s sponsor licence will be withdrawn permanently and you will have to change college.
