The new coalition UK Government does believe that the UK can benefit from migration but that it must not go unchecked. Clearly they still want to be able to attract the very best people to work in the UK but they argue, unlimited numbers cause more harm than good. The Conservatives have long argued that excess migration adds a significant burden to public services, schools and housing, which they argue cause local problems within communities.
The Government will be running a consultation seeking viewpoints and opinion on how an immigration cap should work. Areas of interest covered by the consultation include the coverage of the cap across the tiers of the points based system as well as the policy’s implementation; how will it work in practice? Further, one of the aims of the consultation is to establish how best to attract more valuable migrants to the UK, be they investors or entrepreneurs. The UK Border Agency wants your opinion on how to ensure that “Britain is open for business.”
The views and opinions of business people and all interested parties are welcomed you have until 17 September 2010 to make your views heard. All the data recorded by the consultation will be analysed once closed, with a final decision being taken ahead of the permanent cap coming into force in 1 April 2011.
You can take part in the consultation online, by email, or by completing the response form below and sending it by post.

Is it just me or is the British passport going through Inflation?
