williams college posted the following announcement
As you all know by now, Williams College along with about 100-150 other colleges had its Sponsorship Licence temporarily suspended on the 18 January 2010. This is a general investigation across the entire private college sector and inspectors have been sent to the colleges to look into, among other things, attendance records and procedures.
The best way in which students can respond to this situation is to make sure that they keep attending at least 80% of their classes and also that they do not work over the stipulated hours – 20hrs a week for Business Degree Courses and 10hrs a week for English Foreign Language Courses
Many students have applied for extensions to their visa and are wondering where their passports are. The passports are being held by the UKBA until the verdict is given on the suspension of the licence. Because the UKBA has already visited the college and has completed their inspection into Williams College records and procedures on Wednesday 24th February, it is likely that a decision will be reached in the next 3-4 weeks. Once this happens, the passports will be released
For those existing students needing visa extensions in the near future, they should proceed with the application as normal with a letter of explanation from the college. This letter is issued in the administration department.
At present the college licence issue mainly affects new students who are wanting to join the college. The college cannot take in any new students until the suspension is lifted. For those attending the college at this time nothing has changed and courses are continuing as normal.
