Anglian College London can confirm that it is one of the 140 or so colleges that have had their visa sponsorship rights suspended by the UK Border Agency. We have not succeeded in obtaining any sane, meaningful explanation for this action out of the UKBA and the matter is now in the hands of our lawyers.
As an honestly run business that is dead serious about providing quality education and about obeying the law of the land, we bitterly resent any implication that we, or the vast majority of our students, have done anything wrong. We regularly send out newsletters to our overseas recruitment partners explaining as much as wean find out.
At present Anglian College London has over one thousand places available for students to start in May on a variety of diploma courses, in new premises, well equipped with new computers etc, and with highly qualified lecturers ready to teach. All this is sitting empty, while we are forbidden to sell these places to well qualified student applicants, many of whom have paid in good faith to come to us. This is a huge scandal for which we can only apologise to our friends and customers overseas who areas much victims as all of us on the staff of Anglian College.

Like it or lump it, Indians have been using sham entry processes and fourth rate “colleges” to obtain entry to the UK. There are plenty of good colleges in India, and I suggest that people apply to those.

PLEASE do not attend this college!!! As a former student I can tell you that this principal is LYING!!! He does not care at all about any of the students ..none of the staff at Anglian college care about the students all they care about is taking your money!!!
I and some of my classmates were abruptly suspended early this year for supposed “poor attendance” and refused re-admission to finish our course whilst some students who had equally poor attendance were allowed to stay on the course and gain their qualification.
There are some really terrible people operating at Anglian College and you know who you are!!
Furthermore, the standard of teaching is extremely poor and disorganised and once you start a course they will also spring unexpected “hidden charges” on you.
Honestly I am very shocked and disapointed at the UKBAs decision to lift the suspension and I think the principal should stop lying there was obviously a valid reason why you were suspended and neither you nor the college cares about any of the students you are just out to take their money!
International students, please invest wisely in other colleges that genuinely care about you!! Dont waste your money on this bogus college. I predict they will have more problems in the future!

Hi Habe
As of 29 March 2010, they do appear on the Register with a B rating. It’s odd that you have been waiting for so long.
What country are you applying from?

hello
the ukba is a confused body, and using international student that contributes to thier economy a big way finacially, putting stress on sponsors many risking bankruptcy or debt,if they dont want international student in thier country they should say so and stop recieving application from non eu student, then they will have no problem thier are many countries that realy needs thies international students
just be bold and stop recieving application from non eu student ,then we will see how they will cope.

Hi Bolanle
I do think that the actions taken have caused huge amounts of stress to everyone involved.
However, I also think it was about time that something was done – the system has been awash with dodgy colleges for too long now.
In the long term, this intervention by the UKBA will undoubtedly make things better for international students.
Would you prefer to chose from colleges that you knew were legitimate, or take the risk on giving your money to a dodgy college?

Hi Habe
Since November does seem like an awful long time. However, your application hasn’t been rejected yet so I can only assume that they haven’t made a decision yet. Unless the UK Border Agency decides to announce all of the sponsors who will have their licences withdrawn permanently, in one go.

Hi Dave
Icon’s licence was suspended on February 12.
It can take schools and colleges anywhere from 3-6 weeks to several months to be inspected by the UK Border Agency, for a Sponsor Action Plan to be drafted if needed and to be re-included on the Register.
You should keep checking the master list of college suspensions to see when your colleges suspension is resolved.
Only the college and the UKBA will know for sure. After inspection, 32 days is set aside for correspondence, so it isn’t a quick process. Find out more on the timescales: what happens to my education provider if their licence is suspended?.

Hi Shahid
As it has been found to be invovled in visa fraud, it is likely to take a long time for the suspension to be resolved. Have you seen our post, visa fraud uncovered at Gateway2UK Education? It has loads of info and a video with all the details.

This is indeed a very tough time for the genuine colleges & students.
What explanation has the UKBA to offer to genuine students whose academic plans have been put on hold? many of these students have paid their fees and now their colleges are unable to issue CAS.
Many other students received their visas but their colleges were suspended before they could reach UK. These students are waiting in their home countries for their colleges to be reinstated as sponsors. In the meanwhile, their intended course of study has already commenced! These students have suffered without any reason.
More colleges should use this blog to express their views in this matter. This will help to further highlight the intensity of this situation. Information on this blog is open to all and the media and UKBA will take a note of it.

Hi Kazim
I do agree that the implementation of the policies to clean up the industry has been sloppy. However, as the problem has been left to fester for so long, immediate action was required. I do genuinely believe that this period of pain will benefit international students coming to the UK in the long-term.
