Leading Scottish University’s Sponsor Licence Suspended

A leading Scottish university has had their licence to sponsor student migrants suspended amid claims of breaches of immigration rules.

Some nursing students at Glasgow Caledonian University have been accused of working full time leading to their sponsor’s licence suspension, the first time such a step has been taken against a university.

Damian Green to cite Number of Non-Highly Trusted Colleges as Sign of Abuse

Last year, 90,000 student visas were issued to non-EU migrants from education providers that were not highly trusted. UK Immigration Minister Damien Green is to use this to argue that the potential for abuse is “clearly enormous” in a speech in London later today.

Highly Trusted Sponsors List

The Highly Trusted Sponsors List launched 6 April 2010. All of the Highly Trusted Sponsors on the list do not however yet have a licence; when the sponsors list launched, it included UK education providers which received public funding.
