Visa Expired and Can’t Leave the UK Because of the Volcanic Eruption?

The UK Border Agency has released advice to migrants who can’t leave the UK because of the volcanic eruption in Iceland.

Migrants whose visas have expired and are unable to leave the UK will not be penalised by the UK Border Agency; they understand that you are unable to leave due to mitigating circumstances, which you hold no control over.

The UK Border Agency advises all migrants affected to make sure that they keep proof of their original travel plans. You will probably be required to show this when you leave the UK once flights have resumed. The UK Border Agency also asks that you do not contact them surrounding this issue, unless there are exceptional circumstances.

We’ll update you as the situation progresses.

  • It’s a awful moment in time for the airline industry, nevertheless our prayers – regardless of whether the images of the volcanic eruption are truly exceptional – really have to be with the persons stranded very far from home. Thanks for your current posting.
