Bloomsbury Business School Refuses Refund

My Name is Chetansinh Y. Rathod. I had applied for the admission in Diploma in Hotel Management at Bloomsbury Business School London.

College told me to pay 50% of tuition fees as a study deposit in order to issue visa letter. I paid 100% instead of 50% of the course fees. After receiving my course fees they did sent me a visa letter. I’ve also received a fee schedule from the college which clearly says that study deposit is 100% refundable upon rejection. The service was quite nice till now.

I had applied for the visa at Mumbai embassy but due to my previous application refusal my application has been refused again with the same copied reason from my previous refusal.

Now the problem starts now on.

I’ve sent my refusal copy along with original visa letter to college asking for my refund. College is denying to pay back tuition fees which has been paid in full. I’ve been in touch with their local agent (now they don’t represent the BBS) and they are trying to help me with great support. The agent told us to write to UKBA and to you to solve this issue as I know the money is with college and college is responsible to pay back the tuition fees because I refused for the visa.

The college is clever, during my admission and visa procedure the refund policy was straight forward (I have a printout of the policy). Now when I asked for refund they said to me that they need a refusal letter copy and original visa letter. I did sent those documents. After analyzing my refusal they changed their refusal policy.

I’ve been spoken one of Entry Clearance officer at Mumbai outlining the problem I have. He told me that college can not keep your money whatsoever reason of refusal student may have. College must pay back course fees as student has been refused.

Please try to help me with this matter.

  • well me and my wife are also victims of BBS as they refused to refund our fees as well. as per their policy 50% fee was deposited in the name of the school but our visa was refused due to some minor prob as we did not attach a specific letter with the documents and so they kept on telling us that we will refund u……this kept n going for so long. i even provided them with all the documentations as well which theyu required to process the refund but bot only the manageent but the director kevin martin himself turned out to be big lier. i gave the university an option that the specific amount which they deduct from the fees for refund, they can deduct as much as they want and atleast return me something but those a******s did’nt even bother considering the fact that with how much difficulty i managed to gather all the funds for this shit university.

Gudluck with the money that u guys earn by not refunding and one day justice will prevail INSHALLAH

  • To all interested parties,
I would like to reply to these comments(with the authority of the Director of School)
(1)BBS has always acted in an ethical and sincere manner.
(2)With any fraudulent act there is always a consequence and often a price to pay. In this case, the above student was refused entry for a 2nd time into the UK but more importantly he has blocked a potentially bone fide student from taking a place on this course. We are a small school with limited places and as such have always sympathised with applicants with a real intent to study. A CAS(visa letter) is only issued by us after due dilligence is carried out on the application. Why should the rest of us be penalised?
(3)We have already discussed issues of this nature with ASIC(our accrediting body)
(4)I do not want to enter into speculation as to why this student has done what he has done.I will only conclude that BBS has always remained in contact with this applicant and stands by its decision until instructed otherwise

    • Hi Kieron

Thanks for taking the time to reply to this post in an official capacity.

Given there is no detail of an alleged fraud contained in this post I assume you know something not contained herein or have you made an assumption based on the single fact of 2 visa refusals? The reason I ask is because in 4) you say you will not speculate as to what this student has done but in 2) accuse the poster of fraudulent applications.

I take sympathy with colleges who are forever waiting for the UKBA to release new batches of CAS records through the SMS. Much delay is down to pressure to quickly implement the UK’s immigration cap – an issue the UKBA openly admit to.

Unfortunately your application form does not contain any terms and conditions and they are not published on your site, so can not be discussed. Perhaps the OP can release the copy of the terms he has that were in place at the time of his application.

I think what is needed is for the OP to post the reasons the ECO gave for his refusal to clear up the hear-say.

  • Hi,

I had a look at College site , they have affiliation with University of Bolton and ASIC.

As per code of conduct, they should refund you fees as per initial application / offer , once the agreement has been signed , college can not change it.

My idea would be to complain to University of Bolton , ASIC and UKBA with copy sent to College of this complaint.

In this complaint please make sure you scan & enclose copy of admission letter , Visa Letter and refusal letter. Also write the sequence of events leading the way till refusal and steps you took to get the refund ( Enclose all communication that you/your agents have in this regard)

I believe, if college has no plans of shutting down their operation, they should return your money with above effort.

    Best of Luck

  • If you have been refused under 320 Section, the college are not entitled to return back the fund as the reason is deception. We are working with numbers of public funded colleges and universities, thereby we have in-depth knowledge about this process. If the situation is like this, then I believe UKBA still can not help you out to recover your fund. Hope for the best and wish you will have your refunds!!

    • Hi Sayeed

But the original poster does not specify why he was refused. It would be helpful if he could post the ECO’s decision.

Technically, whatever is quoted in the college’s terms and conditions will stand; so, if they say that a refund will be provided on production of a valid visa refusal document, then they must provide a refund, no matter what the refusal decision.

Increasingly, schools and colleges and reviewing a student’s financial evidence prior to issuing CAS numbers. Students who do not go through these checks with the school will be denied a refund if they are refused their visa for maintenance reasons.

  • If i were in your position i would try once more emailing Bloomsbury and would address the letter to the director of the school telling the whole story with some email attachement made by the Bloomsbury staff that u were told that your full tuition fee was not refundable plus the receipt or reference number, date of your registered mail when u post the refusal letter and Acceptance Letter. As or me, you can still secure a copy from the embassy about your refusal by request. At the same time, introduce this issue to UKBA …

    • You should put as much pressure on them as possible. They are acting disgracefully by not refunding you following a visa refusal.

  • Would it be possible to know who the OWNERS and DIRECTORS of the Bloomsbury Business School are?

Is this a matter for the Police?

By the way, Daniel, your email address no longer likes my emails!
