Confusion with CAS at St. Patrick’s College

Hello,

I’m an international student from the Philippines. I got my CAS for May 2010 intake in APRIL 20, 2010 and lodged my application on APRIL 29, 2010.

Because of the huger bulk of applications, BHC approved my visa on JUNE 24, 2010 and will expire on Dec. 19, 2011. I contacted my school, St. Patrick’s College London and they told me that I should reapply for a new CAS and VISA.

I have made lots of effort in finding out why the school wants me to reapply everything again. I called the UK embassy here and they told me Im good for travel however I just need an updated CAS (meaning I’ll be deferred to September). Even a staff from the school told me, before I got my visa approved, that my CAS is valid for six months and there should be no problem. Even the UKBA’s website it is stated that CAS is valid for six months.

How can that be? Can anybody help me? St. Patrick’s College is not doing anything. They just say the same thing: WAIT. Time is valuable for me because I need ample time to prepare.

Is it true that UKBA telling the sponsors that students need to reapply for CAS and visa when I have already my visa and I just need an updated CAS???

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i think iam the only one who was not able to have a visa. Anyway, i did request for a refund from the college and yet it is already 4 months and i still dont have My refund.. in their refund policy it is clearly stated that it will be done in 6-8 weeks.. I have really waited patiently for it but they keep on telling me to wait. Last time they told me that it will be transfereed to me by septembber and yet nothin happened.

    • Hi Love

Sorry to hear you are experiencing problems in securing your refund. A student of Global Vision College secured a Court Order against the college and was provided with a 100% refund plus costs. Perhaps you could begin to put some legal pressure on the college as you have been waiting for so long?

Let me know if I can help in this regard.

Keep us updated with your progress.

      • Hi daniel

I will be grateful if you reply me. I am really worried as i got my tier4 visa for MSC in uk high trusted university but i got visa bit late and uni asked me to defer my intake to september from february 2011, so i deferred my intake from feb2011 session to sep2011 session and university issued me new offer letter with same student id and now i recieved email from uni that they will issue me new CAS and i need to reapply.i want to ask one thing that why i can’t travel on same visa if my sponsor and my course is same and my visa is valid. As far i think uni don’t want students to make further application in uk for extensions so they advice students make fresh application but they don’t say clear as they always say me “might you face any problem at border”…please advice me do i need to make fresh application or i can travel on same visa for next session?plz i need urgent reply if you don’t mind i will be grateful if you reply my qury…thanx alot

  • Good to hear you’ve resolved the problem and St. Patrick’s College have got everything sorted for you. Good luck with your travel and studies.

Keep us posted on how you get on in the UK.

  • St. Patrick’s College confirmed that I am now good for travel. St. Patrick’s will send me a letter which I will carry when I travel to show to Border Control if necessary. I don’t know if its electronic or hard copy though.

I’m thankful that St. Patrick’s is able to help me with this. The anxiety and confusion going through this is not easy.

For students who have the same issue, contact the school immediately. Inform your school the dates of issuance of your CAS, passport, visa and when you lodge your application. Make sure that your CAS is valid.

    Thanks for your advice. =)

    • I second this; it is imperative that students speak with their sponsors to resolve issues.

Great to hear that things have worked out for you. Good luck with your travel and studies and be sure to keep us all informed on your progress.

  • Hi Maricor

Have you been told you need an updated CAS record or a completely new CAS?

Has the British Embassy asked you to submit your passport? To make a new application? What the Embassy tells you to do, you should.

What is your new start date given by the college? I can’t see it in your post.

    • the school told me that i need to reapply everything. FROM CAS TO VISA APPLICATION.

the embassy did not ask for my passport nor make a new application. when we called the embassy they told me i’m good for travel but i need proper documents to support my student visa.

as i understand, the school is responsible for the issuance of updated or new CAS. St. Patrick’s are refusing to reply on my situation and they keep telling me to wait.

  • Maricor,

Congrats on your visa. I also applied at St. Patrick’s College, unfortunately St. Patrick’s caused problems for me. If I were in your shoes, I would ask for a new CAS and I would submit that to the British Embassy, as they had requested. And since you have your visa already and are good to go, you can wait until a month before your September intake and go to the UK and show up in school. Also, it would be good to ask the British Embassy after you submit the new CAS if they would have to amend your visa to reflect the changes in the school intake. This is due to the length of the visa given to you which is 4 months + your total length of study in SPC (am guessing it is still 15 months for the Post-Grad course in Int’l. Health Mgt).

They (SPC) are making things difficult for you when you already have a valid visa so reapplying for something you already have really sounds dumb on my end.

I think St. Patrick’s problems rise in the allocation of slots. They have limited available slots and I have no idea if this was lifted already or not. As far as I know, the slots for the May intake was limited to 30 international students, and deferring you to the September intake might cause problems for them, hence why they are asking you to wait.

Think twice before reapplying cuz for me, that is really unnecessary. You could practically leave now for the UK and get there but your problems will start once you register at the school and they would refuse to accept you.

If the British Embassy is telling you to send an updated CAS then I doubt that the UKBA will have a different story.

    • my mother called the UK embassy, they told us that im good for travel but i need an extension CAS to be on the September intake.

From UKBA’s website, the school are responsible for issuing CAS. I don’t know why the school have difficulty issuing an extension CAS when my CAS is still valid. the school told me that and even the embassy.

U were ryt, there are only 30 slots for international students allowed for the May intake. I believe the school are scared that to be suspended again and they aim to be in the Highly Trusted Sponsor Lists.

      • wrong grammar: the school is scared yan…soweee

      • You were even lucky to be included in the 30 students they took in. I was one of those they asked to withdraw. Blessing in disguise na rin for me cuz now I am applying at a school who is in the Highly Trusted list, has never been suspended that I know of, so they have a pretty amazing record. And I feel more confident, and in good hands.

Maricor, my advice to you, based na rin on my friends who are there in London now, pay your tuition in full if you can. It is your biggest expense and kahit sila nahihirapan na dun. Marami sa kanila nag drop kasi nga ang mahal ng school. That would really put you in a risky position. Me isa na galing sa the same agency as I am in, she really got deported.

You can only work 20 hours a week. The most difficult part for them is balancing the time between work and school and how to manage it so that it wont conflict.

You ever tried calling Morgan directly or if you have friends already there, for them to go talk to her directly? Baka mas magka-intindihan ng maige kung harapan or kung ikaw mismo ang kumausap sa kanya para malaman nila na revised CAS na lang ang kulang mo.
