I had admission to vision college of theology in hackney. When I made the visa application I was denied on the basis that I had an expired cas number. Before makin the application the college assured me that the cas was valid for another six months and therefore despite the fact that I was a week late into the term time there would be no issues arising in regard to the cas number. They even went ahead and issued me a late coming acceptance letter as it was due to their lack of proper administration that I was late in making my visa application. When my visa was denied I withdrew mu admission from the college and requested a refund of the fees paid . I had paid a whole years tuition fee.
The college wrote me an email saying they would pay the refund less 250 administration costs on the 15th of july 2010.I instructed them to pay the money into my sisters account in the UK. however on the day no refund was made. The college came up with several excuses and again said they would pay on the 23rd of july 2010. They however didn’t make the payment. They then sent an email stating that they would pay on the 3rd of august 2010. Last friday they sent me an email stating that they were sending me a cheque by DHl. I called and sent them an email stating that the cheque is unacceptable. Foreign. Cheques are not accepted in all banks in my country due to fraud etc and the college is aware of this fact. The only reason they have done this is again to buy time and also because I have made a complaint to Asic.
I got admission to a university and paid a fees deposit and was expecting the refund so as to make the full payment to the university. I got admission for the september intake but because I have not received the refund from vision college I am unable to make the september intake.I have had to defer my admission to next year.
Is there any way I can get compensation and damages for time wasted extra costs incurred in trying to get the refund? I want to expose the actions of this college and the rest of the colleges that refuse to make refunds. The process through asic is slow and I have not received the refund from the college.
Please advise me on other remedies

Legally taking the money out is the only way out of these colleges and solicitors and barristors charge huge sums, so No Win No Fee is the order of the day my friend.

Hi priyanka,
,,,,,,,,Try to get information about tht college students list
how many students they enrolled.
Ask them the final date when they gonna refund.
If it is possible try to talk strictly tht u gonna take lawyer to get refund.
n just look wht response they will give u.
If they say ok u can do whtever u like,, tht means they don;t have any money in there college bank account.
If they r desperate to talk politely then they will definitly refund your money. but it will take time
try to make them to feel, tht u gonna give more new students for new courses in future too but u gonna keep the draft of new students,
hope it works
tht;s the way to deal with those smart x students (owner)

Dear Madam/Sir,
I have a small business in India and we recruit students for UK Universities in India and get commission from Universities. In November 2009 we got tie-up with London College of Advanced Studies and I recruited 25 students for the college, these students have paid 4000 to 4,500 pounds each which roughly 1,00,000 pounds as first instalment of the fee after which the College license was suspended resulting in students wanting to withdraw their applications. On college terms and conditions they have given in writing that if student wish to withdraw their application of if their visa gets rejected then they will refund the money within 28 days, its been more than 3 months since we are chasing college for refund. So, far college has refunded only 4,000 pounds which is less than even 4% of the total money they owe to us.
I would really appreciate if you could help me with any advice that how can we go about getting our refunds.
I have all the relevant documents to prove the above.

Tyler,
You should complain to UKBA. This College has ‘Highly Trusted Sponsor’ status under Tier 4 PBS. UKBA can remove their licence if it is shown that they have cheated students.
